Are you entitled to a special payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)?

Date: 4 July 2023

If you claimed Income Support due to a disability or health condition on or after 31 January 2011, you may qualify for a special payment from DWP.

Many claimants were told to apply for the wrong benefit scheme and received less money than they were due.

Are you receiving Income Support?

Please check that both of the following apply:

  • You have a disability or health condition and made a claim on or after 31 January 2011
  • When you made the Income Support claim you were not receiving Incapacity Benefit or Severe Disablement Allowance

Have you moved on to income-related ESA or Universal Credit?

You may be eligible if the following apply:

  • You have a disability or health condition and made a claim on or after 31 January 2011
  • When you made the Income Support claim you were not receiving Incapacity Benefit or Severe Disablement Allowance
  • You had a Work Capability Assessment when you moved from Income Support to income-related ESA or Universal Credit. If this assessment found you to have ‘limited capability for work’ or ‘limited capability for work and work-related activity’, you may qualify.
