Extra care

Extra care housing is ideal for older people who want to live independently but may need help and support with daily living.

Extra care

Our extra care developments consist of thoughtfully designed one and two-bedroom apartments. Each property has its own front door and is fully self-contained with its own kitchen and bathroom.

Our schemes also offer a range of facilities for the comfort and enjoyment of residents. The facilities vary but can include:

  • Restaurant
  • Communal lounge
  • Landscaped gardens
  • Hairdressers/therapy suite
  • Guest room
  • Laundry room
  • Mobility scooter charging and storage areas

Care and support

Care is provided by a fully trained team of staff, who are usually chosen by the local Adult Social Care department. The care team deliver planned care calls to customers and respond to emergencies.

You’ll also benefit from a friendly scheme manager on-site to keep everything running smoothly. It is their job to manage the building and provide other support where appropriate.

Please note, there are upper limits to the amount of care and support that can be provided in an extra care scheme and, very occasionally, alternative accommodation may have to be arranged for residents. This decision would be made by health and social care professionals in conjunction with the family or an advocate acting for the resident.

Buy or rent
Extra care apartments are available to rent or to buy. To learn more about buying an extra care property, please visit our Weald Living website.

To rent an extra care property, you must first contact your local authority’s Adult Social Care team to have your need for care assessed. Once they have determined your care and support needs, they will put forward a nomination to us. Allocations are made jointly by the Adult Social Care team in conjunction with Saxon Weald. Please contact your local Adult Social Care team for more information.
