Dedicating thyme to the local community

Date: 29 October 2019

As part of an ongoing series of community projects, a group of volunteers from across Saxon Weald recently came together to lend a helping hand and spruce up the grounds of the Horsham and Shipley Community Project.

The local organisation believes that age is no barrier for fun, fitness and social interaction. Their range of activities, including a men's shed and walking football, aim to reduce loneliness and isolation by creating a safe and fun place for people come. Members of project work hard to maintain the site throughout the year, so were thrilled when Saxon Weald offered some willing hands to help finish off the jobs that would see the grounds through winter.

During the day, the volunteers joined forces with members of the project to tackle tasks such as building compost bins, clearing and flattening the Petanque pitch, painting the men's shed, and even enjoyed a BBQ lunch. The team also dedicated time to replanting trees, sanding and oiling the project's picnic benches, mowing patches of grass across the grounds and clearing behind the clubhouse.

Members of the project were delighted with the outcome of the day. A trustee at the Horsham and Shipley Community Project, said:

"The day was a great success and we'd like to thank all of our volunteers and members of the projects for making the day possible."
