Community Day at Trafalgar Infant School

Date: 2 November 2018

On Tuesday 23 October, staff members from across Saxon Weald joined forces to bring a new lease of life to the grounds of Trafalgar Infant School in Horsham, as part of an ongoing series of community projects.

Thanks to a generous donation of painting and decorating supplies from Brewers, Horsham, Saxon Weald volunteers were able to transform parts of the school.

The biggest change of the day was the garden. Saxon Weald volunteers worked hard to create an exciting environment for the children to return to after half term, aimed at stimulating their senses, from sight, to smell, to touch.

The team were also lucky to enlist the help of Chris Nolan from grounds maintenance specialists Burleys, who dedicated a day to providing expert gardening advice and tackling the school's overgrown willow structure.

Kat Green, Headteacher at Trafalgar Infant School, said:

“We were thrilled to be asked by Saxon Weald if they could carry out a Community Day here at Trafalgar Community Infant School. The 19 Saxon Weald staff worked hard over the half term break painting, tending to our willow dome, carrying out general maintenance tasks, planting, putting up new blinds in classrooms, amongst other important jobs. The children were excited to see their school looking even brighter and more welcoming when they returned to school from their half term break. Thank you to Saxon Weald, and their staff, for their time and efforts, and to Saxon Weald for making a financial contribution to the resources needed for this work at a time when school budgets are extremely tight.”

The day was a great success, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers, suppliers and school for making the project possible.
