Think before you flush

Date: 22 September 2020

Throughout the year, our Homefix operatives deal with lots of issues and repairs in our tenants' homes, including blocked toilets. In many instances, the problem stems from people flushing the wrong things down the toilet.

Think before you flush

Remember, you should only flush the three P's:

  • Pee
  • Poo
  • Paper (toilet)

Anything else should be disposed of appropriately with your general household waste. This includes, but isn't limited to:

  • Kitchen roll
  • Baby wipes
  • Nappies
  • Face wipes
  • Sanitary products
  • Wrappers
  • Cigarettes

Flushing items that should be thrown in your regular household waste can risk damaging your household plumbing and can lead to overflowing sewers in your garden or community.

Unblocking toilets can also be a costly job. If the cause is due to incorrect items being flushed, the cost may be recharged to you.

Under the current circumstances, and due to the nature of the job, unblocking toilets is a high-risk activity for our operatives. Please be considerate and follow this guidance to help minimise blockages as much as possible and keep you and our staff safe.
