Cold Weather Payment – are you eligible?

If the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days, you may be able to claim a Cold Weather Payment from the government.

If you’re eligible to get Cold Weather Payments, you’ll get paid £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1 November 2023 and 31 March 2024. You should receive the payment within 14 working days.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible for Cold Weather Payments if you’re getting:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Universal Credit
  • Support for Mortgage Interest

You do not need to apply. You’ll get these payments automatically, but you may need to tell Jobcentre Plus if you have a baby or if a child under five comes to live with you.
