A structural issue with the roof at Saxon Weald’s Allison House retirement scheme in Hedge End, means that all 16 residents must be moved to alternative accommodation today. This is a precautionary measure and all residents are being supported with their move.
Concerns with the roof were initially identified during routine fire safety works. Saxon Weald then commissioned structural engineers, Phillip Goacher Associates, to assess the extent of the problem. Their report, received this morning, identified a structural concern with the roof that requires further investigation and remedial work. As a precautionary measure, engineers advised that the building should be evacuated while the roof is made safe.
Corinna Bishopp, Saxon Weald’s Chief Executive, comments: “"The safety and wellbeing of our residents is our absolute priority. We appreciate how unsettling this news will be and are working closely with every resident and their families to make sure they have suitable accommodation and support. Once we know everyone is safe, we will begin further investigations into the roof issue and work towards getting it secure so everyone can return home.”
Until we understand the nature and extent of the works, we are unable to say exactly when residents may be able to return. Our current estimate is two weeks, but we will keep everyone updated as we know more.
