Perpetrator support

Controlling, hurting, or pressuring your partner to doing something they don’t want to are all forms of domestic abuse. If this sounds familiar, it’s important to get help to prevent causing further harm.

It’s also important to be aware of these signs if you are concerned you or someone you know is being abused.

Domestic abuse can take many forms, including:

  • Physical – for example, hitting, slapping and kicking
  • Emotional – such as bullying, humiliating, or sending abusive messages
  • Coercive control – including using threats, intimidation, or isolation to manipulate
  • Sexual – forcing someone to take part in sexual acts against their will
  • Financial – controlling money or using someone’s credit cards without permission

If you’re worried about your behaviour, support is available.

The Respect Phoneline offers free, confidential and non-judgmental advice to help you change your behaviour. They can also connect you with programmes that explore the causes of abuse and help you understand how your actions affect others.
