Safety means lots of different things to people. To our Property Safety Team, it means ensuring our customer’s homes are safe and compliant to live in. This includes meeting legal and regulatory standards.
Our Property Safety team is led by our new Head of Property Safety, Dave Johnson, who joined us in March 2025. The team is responsible for arranging inspections and service visits, as well as making sure repairs and safety actions are carried out within a reasonable timeframe.
The team manages many safety areas, including:
- Fire
- Gas
- Electrical
- Damp and Mould
- Water
- Lifts
- Asbestos
There are several ways that you can help us keep you safe:
- Keeping appointments - From time to time, we will need to access your home to carry out inspections and tests. If you are not able to keep the date or time of the appointment given to you, please notify us as soon as possible. It is also important to make sure someone over the age of 18 is at home.
- Report any repairs or hazards to us at the earliest opportunity – The sooner we know, the quicker we can fix it.
- Regularly test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors – We recommend testing your smoke alarms monthly. If your alarm doesn’t work, please report it straight away and we will arrange an urgent repair.
- Always ask for permission to make changes in your home – Structural changes and renovations (other than decoration) must be approved by Saxon Weald before they are undertaken. This is because some alterations could cause significant safety issues for your home.
- Keep communal areas free – This includes items such as bikes, buggies and refuse, which could block your escape route in the event of an emergency or fire.
- Read information we provide on property safety – Even the smallest piece of information could be life saving.
Dave is passionate about ensuring the safety of our properties:
“It is vital that organisations like Saxon Weald take their responsibilities for customer and property safety seriously. This is the purpose of the Property Safety team and aligns with both our values and purpose. I can’t wait to build on the solid foundations that Saxon Weald have already been delivering”.
