Green Meadows, Saxon Weald's new retirement development in
Pulborough, West Sussex, will enjoy beautiful views of the
RSPB's Pulborough Brooks reserve.
Future resident Sue Holden and Saxon Weald's Chairman David
Avery donned binoculars and got out their bird books at
celebrations to mark the start of construction work in June.
Residents of Alfrey Platt, Saxon Weald's existing local scheme,
will move into their new homes when Green Meadows is completed
in February 2011.

Downlands Court, our Extra Care scheme of 41, one and
two-bedroom apartments in Peacehaven was officially opened in
April by Jeremy Porteus from the Department of Health.
The event was attended by representatives from Saxon Weald, East
Sussex County Council, Lewes District Council and Peacehaven
Town Council as well local residents and people
involved in the construction of the development. Speeches were
given by our Chairman David Avery, Barry Atkins Head of Adult
Social Care at East Sussex County Council, and Jeremy Porteus.
Thirteen voluntary and not-for-profit organisations have
received between £200 and £1,000 in funding from Saxon Weald's
Community Grants Scheme.
The annual scheme invites organisations from the areas we
operate in to apply for a grant that they can spend on anything.
Many use it to cover running costs, maintenance or new
equipment.
One of this year's recipients was Horizon, pictured below with
Saxon Weald Chairman David Avery (left). Horizon help adults
with learning difficulties to live independently in the
community.

Work has started on Brighton Hill in Basingstoke. The site will
be home to 64 Extra Care apartments for older people who need
personal care and support with daily living. Thirty-four of the
apartments, a mixture of one and two-bedroom, will be available
for rent, and a further 30 apartments will be available for
purchase through our shared equity scheme.
A photo opportunity held to mark the occasion was attended by
Saxon Weald Chief Executive, David Standfast, Councillor
Felicity Hindson and Deane Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for
Housing and Health Cllr Cathy Osselton.
Challen Court, one of our retirement schemes in Horsham, has won a ‘bronze’ award at the UK’s first national housing awards to be nominated by older people themselves. Residents nominated Challen Court for the Best UK Retirement Housing Scheme, awarded by the Elderly Accommodation Council (EAC). The results were announced at a ceremony at Lords Cricket Ground on 4 February. Residents and David Coghlan, Challen Court Scheme Manager, attended the event.
Young people at Ravenscroft in Storrington can play ball games in a secure, walled area thanks to Housing Manager Shanna Nesbeth. The walled area was set up on a piece of disused parish council land and was funded by Saxon Weald, Storrington Parish Council, West Sussex County Council and Horsham District Council. Residents and young footballers came along to officially open the ball wall in December.
Charter place, our development of stylish apartments for rent and low cost home ownership in East Grinstead, is open. An event was held in December to mark the occasion attended by staff, former Chairman of nine years Robin Charter (after whom the development is named) as well as representatives from the council and construction company, Rydon.
