Universal Credit - managed migration

Date: 9 June 2022

You may have seen some press recently around ‘managed migration’ restarting.

Managed migration is when the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) contacts anyone still claiming legacy benefits/tax credits to advise these benefits will be ending. Anyone receiving these types of benefits will need to claim Universal Credit (UC) instead.

This final phase will be carried out between now and 2024.

If this impacts you, please do not feel you have to apply now, as you will receive a notice from the DWP when you need to make this change. Please note that if you apply before you receive this notice, you will not qualify for the transitional protection which will result in your income dropping. So, it’s best to wait until you’re notified before you do anything.

If you still want to apply before you receive your notice, please seek advice before doing so from our Money Matters team by emailing moneymatters@saxonweald.com.

Alternatively, you can contact a benefits agency such as Citizens Advice for support.
