Saxon Weald's community day for Age UK

Date: 15 February 2019

On Wednesday 13 February, team members from across Saxon Weald came together to make a difference to older people living in the local community.

Saxon Weald's community day for Age UK

Lavinia House is the hub of Age UK Horsham district and has a large activity space for their day club members. The club encourages members to get involved with various activities such as crafts, gardening, IT and much more. The club also offers exercise classes, live music and educational trips, as well as the chance to make friends and socialise with other people over the age of 50.

The club recognised that areas of the space were looking tired and in need of some tlc, so were thrilled when Saxon Weald offered some willing hands who were ready to get stuck in and help.

Thanks to a generous donation of paint from Concept Design Solutions, the Saxon Weald team was able to freshen up various parts of the building, including the staff kitchen.

The team also got to work on the garden, which was in need of some repair works and a bit of colour. Thanks to the help of a couple of our Homefix team, we were able to repair a number of areas including an external gate, greenhouse and garden planters. The outdoor shed and planters also had a fresh lick of paint to bring a bit of colour into the garden.

A few of the team also dedicated their day to hosting a number of activities for the club members to get involved with, including musical bingo, flower arranging and valentines crafts.

Sonia Mangan, CEO for Age UK Horsham District, was delighted with the outcome of the day and expressed her thanks to the team:

"You guys were truly amazing yesterday and we want to thank you again for everything you did and continue to do for us. Working in the garden, doing handy tasks around the place, painting the kitchen and working with some of our club members made a difference to us all yesterday, and helps even more older people to love later life."

The day was a great success and we'd like to thank all of our volunteers, suppliers and staff at the club for making the project possible.
