Redevelopment plans for Fairfield Cottages, Cowfold

Date: 8 August 2022

Saxon Weald is preparing to apply for planning permission to redevelop 15-18 Fairfield Cottages in Cowfold. Unfortunately, these four retirement bungalows have been affected by subsidence caused by an oak tree. The tree was cut down earlier this year, following approval from Horsham District Council, due to it being diseased.

If our application is accepted, we plan to build nine new, affordable homes on this site; including five, two-bedroom houses and four one-bedroom maisonettes for affordable rent and shared ownership. Our target is to achieve net zero carbon on these new homes. We will also plant a tree in a suitable location on site to replace the oak tree, which will be agreed with Horsham District Council Planning department.

We are liaising closely with Horsham District Council and Cowfold Parish Council, and we will shortly be arranging a virtual consultation for local residents to share their views. This will enable us to consider feedback before we submit our planning application in September 2022.

We also understand this will be especially disruptive for the existing residents of Fairfield Cottages. We are in close engagement with these residents and are working hard to find suitable new homes for them.
