Today marks the starts of the 9th annual Gas Safety Week. Running from today until 22 September, the week aims to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances.
Coordinated by Gas Safety Register, the official list of gas engineers, the week falls just as we head into heating season. Since 2011, Gas Safety Week has continued to help encourage people to take the necessary steps to make their homes safer.
Every year thousands of people across the UK are affected by Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a highly poisonous gas and especially dangerous due to our inability to see it, taste it or smell it. Carbon monoxide poisoning is just one of the consequences of poorly maintained or serviced household appliances, such as cookers, heaters and central heating boilers.
Gas Safety Week is in place to get us thinking and taking steps to keep our homes safe. Nevertheless, it is important to remember that gas safety is important all year round.
Visit the Gas Safe Register website for more information www.gassaferegister.co.uk/. Alternatively you can call their free helpline on 0800 408 5500.
